New Design Alert: 'Cuckoo Tea Towels'

I've been ploughing on with new work for the Gin Palace Event which is a mere 2 weeks away and have just designed a couple of tea towels, which I like to call my 'cuckoo tea towels' as they're not your usual tea towel design, taking images inspired by a trip to Hong Kong they are based on two different types of markets found out there. One your classic souvenir stall piled high with memories of a fantastic trip and the other the bird market, where chinese men and women congregate with their birds to chat and buy all their birdie supplies and goodies!

//Details To Follow//, The Gin Palace

Here's the flyer for The Gin Palace event with all the details of where and when, it would be great to see some familiar faces if you can make it! I've got a couple of invites for the special 'invite only' event on the Friday night if anyone fancies it; I'm hoping to be there and meet some of the up and coming designers in Scotland as well as see their beautiful work. I hope to see you there!

Gin Palace Update

Here's me sorting out a design for the Gin Palace Collective event taking place on the 9th-11th April in Glasgow. Designing and making is really hotting up this end as I have quite a bit to do but I'm really looking forward to the event and meeting all the other designer-makers taking part. This design is hopefully going to be a tea towel when I'm finished but we'll see how it prints, I finally got my big repeat off the table yesterday after about a month so it feels rather strange to be working on something a little smaller for a change! And to my Number One Fan, Happy Mothers Day!

Taking Time: Craft a Slow Revolution, Edinburgh

I was invited to a special event in Edinburgh on March 10th to view an exhibition on Craft and listen to a couple of speakers talking about their practises and the current exhibition taking place at the Dovecot Studios above. It was an event for all craft-makers who had received funding from several different Scottish funding boards over the past year. I received funding last year from CABN (Creative Arts and Business Network) to attend a fantastic conference in Holland run by the Surface Design Association http://www.surfacedesign.org/. It gave me the chance to meet several international surface designers as well as attend lectures, seminars and exhibitions all related to my field.

The exhibition itself Taking Time: Craft the Slow Revolution had a diverse range of work from textiles to digital, wood work to jewellery. My favourite has to be the ceramics (above) by Paul Scott and Ann Linneman, this one is named Tree in a Vegatable Patch. I'm always drawn to craft that I've never tried myself and I just love the saucers which can hold a piece of cake too!

Made by Hand, Wales

This week is an exciting week, I've been accepted to do Made by Hand in Wales at Christmas, I'm going to be a very busy bee! Made by Hand is an off-shoot of The Contemporary Craft Fair held every June in Bovey Tracey down in Devon...that's a little far for me to travel. There will be a great selection of craft from across lots of different disciplines including textiles, glass, ceramics, wood etc etc. I'll fill you in with more details when I know them. Check out www.madebyhand-wales.co.uk for more information.
